04.07.2025, After the current contracts expire, SRG will not bid for the audiovisual production of the Ice Hockey National League games and the UEFA Club Competitions starting in 2027. The reason for this decision by SRG management is the changing financial environment and the associated cost-cutting mandate.

Due to the changing financial conditions in the coming years, SRG must examine more closely how its resources are used. Against this backdrop, SRG's management has decided to no longer bid for the production of the Ice Hockey National League games starting in 2027 and also to forego the production of the UEFA Club Competitions games. In both cases, the existing production contracts expire in summer 2027. This decision, which exclusively affects production, has no impact on SRG's current broadcasting rights or its broad sports programming; all associated obligations will be met until then. In general, SRG will focus even more strongly in the future on producing those games and sports that it can show to sports-loving audiences because it holds the broadcasting rights.

The decision supports SRG's transformation and cost-cutting measures.
The decisive cost-cutting measures in sports production are, among other things, a consequence of the Federal Council's reduction in the media levy starting in 2027, as well as declining commercial revenues and inflation. The future waiver of the two production contracts will enable SRG to downsize its production departments. These measures will not only result in savings in production resources such as broadcast vans, but also in a small reduction in staffing levels. Upcoming personnel measures will primarily be offset by reducing external contracts and through natural turnover. Layoffs will unfortunately be unavoidable.

SRG remains a reliable partner for Swiss sports.
The waiver of the production contracts for the Ice Hockey National League and the UEFA Club Competitions is compatible with the license and also strengthens the private, domestic audio/video industry. SRG's broad sports offering and future rights negotiations are unaffected by these measures. SRG has extensive expertise in the production of large and small sporting events. Therefore, it is and will remain a reliable partner for Swiss sports in high-quality productions and broadcasts of sporting events. Every year, SRG accompanies over 100 Swiss sporting events and championships in over 20 different sports and will continue to offer audiences throughout Switzerland a wide range of sporting activities – across the entire diversity of Swiss sport.
