Die Schweizerische Post AG

12.02.2010, In 2009, Swiss Post significantly improved the punctuality of its letter deliveries. 97.7% of A Mail letters (2008: 95.9%) and 98.4% of B Mail letters (2008: 95.9%) reached recipients on time. Swiss Post also chalked up good results for its parcel deliveries: in 2009, 97.8% of all PostPac Priority parcels (2008: 98.0%) and 98.1% of all PostPac Economy parcels (2008: 98.7%) were delivered on time. By international comparison, Swiss Post holds a leading position in terms of its delivery times, while still managing to keep prices relatively low. The requirements of the Federal Council have been continually exceeded.

Last year, Swiss Post handled some 2.6 billion letters and over 100 million parcels. 97.7% of letters posted as A Mail arrived the following day. The year before, this figure was 1.8 percentage points lower. B Mail single items should be delivered no later than the third working day after mailing. Swiss Post kept this service promise in 98.4% of cases in 2009 and delivered the letters on time. This figure was 2.5 percentage points lower in 2008.

If we were to consider the change in the percentage of late deliveries only, the improvements are significant: In 2009, late deliveries of B Mail letters fell by 62% compared to the previous year. In the case of A Mail letters, Swiss Post managed to reduce the number of late deliveries by 44%. Letter processing: higher quality and lower costs

As expected, the results for delivery times once again improved significantly in 2009. Owing to the phased commissioning of the three new letter centres and six regional logistics centres (REMA project), Swiss Post suffered a slight and temporary drop in quality in 2008. The complex changeover to the new letter processing system was completed in March 2009. As last year's figures show, the new, cost-effective logistics system is securely in place and functioning to the highest level. Parcel centres continue to perform to high level

The excellent quality levels achieved for parcels were retained at a similarly high level compared to 2008. In 2009, 97.8% of all PostPac Priority parcels reached recipients on time the following day, while Economy parcels achieved 98.1% and thus one of the highest results since parcel delivery times were first recorded. These good results show that the technologies used at the Swiss Post parcel centres are among the most reliable and modern, even more than ten years after they came on stream. Top international quality at affordable prices

Swiss Post clearly exceeded the specifications of the Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC), which require a minimum of 97% of mailed items to be delivered on time. The Group's delivery quality is also very high by international comparison. Despite the slight decline experienced in 2008, Swiss Post came second out of 25 national and private postal operators surveyed that year, based on the values of the International Post Corporation (IPC). Swiss Post is also at the forefront in terms of letter prices. In the European letter post index 2008, it was the fifth cheapest company for letters, and third cheapest in the parcel post index. Scientific and independent measurements

Over 80,000 letters are dispatched each year and included in the delivery time measurement for domestic mail. This measurement is conducted by the market research institute GfK Switzerland AG in accordance with the EN standards also used in the EU. A scientifically recognized random sample procedure is used to measure parcel delivery times. The parcel delivery times are monitored by an independent body.
