04.09.2023, Zurich - In the traditionally quiet month of August, the Swiss economy presented itself rather restrained as usual. The figures for company formations, company deletions and company mutations are all down significantly compared with the previous month. Nevertheless, the year-on-year comparison reflects the stability of the Swiss corporate landscape.

In August of 2023, a total of 3,688 new companies were registered. This represents a decrease of around 14% compared to the previous month, when 4,272 company foundations were still recorded. However, a look back to the previous year reveals a remarkable stability and allows a positive interpretation of the current figures. In August 2022, exactly 3,426 new registrations were recorded, which represents an increase of 8% compared to the current month. In general, the figures show a solid level despite the typical summer lull in August.

Deletions
The current deletion figures amount to 2,082 company deletions, which shows a decrease of 20% compared to the previous month, which again can be considered typical for the summer slump. A look back to the previous year shows that 1,984 deletions were recorded in the same period, which represents an increase of 5% compared to the current month. These statistical fluctuations illustrate the annual cycle of economic activity in Switzerland.

Mutations
The current mutation numbers are at a low, but not at the lowest level of the year, as was the case in April 2023. For the current month, a total of 14,678 mutations were registered. In this context, a comparison with the previous month shows that the numbers have decreased by 14%. However, compared to the previous year, there is an increase of 6%, which indicates a certain stability and dynamic changes in the business world. This reflects the continuous developments and adjustments in the Swiss economy.

Principality of Liechtenstein
In the Principality of Liechtenstein, a total of 58 new registrations were registered in August 2023, a decrease of 13% compared to the previous month. Interestingly, the deletion figures show an opposite trend, with 84 deletions recorded, an increase of 8% compared to the previous month. The number of mutations also recorded an increase in the same month, with 1,002 registered mutations, which corresponds to an increase of 5% compared to the previous month.
