November 19, 2008, RUAG's Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Peter Guggenbach as the new CEO of RUAG Aerospace. The 46-year-old, who holds a Swiss engineering degree from ETH Zurich, will assume his new position on 1 April 2009, and will also become a member of RUAG's Executive Board. He will be taking over the function from Toni J. Wicki, who alongside his key role as Chief Executive Officer of RUAG, has also been temporarily responsible for this function since August.
After completing training as a telecommunications and electronic equipment installer, Dr. Guggenbach went on to train as a helicopter pilot for the Swiss Air Forces. Having attended Zurich University of Applied Sciences and studied at ETH Zurich, Dr. Guggenbach worked for five years as a research associate before completing his dissertation.
In 1997, as holder of a technical doctorate, Dr. Guggenbach switched to the private sector as a guest researcher at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in Japan. Since 1999, he has held various management positions at technology group ABB, most recently as Head of the local Automation Products Division at ABB Switzerland with 1,500 employees at several sites. In his new function at RUAG Aerospace, Dr. Guggenbach will be able to draw on his international experience in marketing, sales, product and project management, engineering, manufacturing and service. He has also successfully carried out acquisitions and integrated global business units.
