October 05, 2010, Alpiq Holding Ltd. is merging the trading activities of its two companies, Alpiq Suisse SA and Alpiq AG, in a new company called Alpiq Trading AG. This move is part of the integration of the former Atel and EOS. Alpiq Trading AG has its registered office in Olten and employs around 200 staff at locations in Olten, Lausanne and Oslo.
In the wake of the legal reorganisation, Alpiq Holding Ltd. has founded a new subholding as of 24 August 2010 with a view to combining the trading activities formerly carried out by Alpiq Suisse SA and Alpiq AG under one roof. The foundation of Alpiq Trading AG strengthens Alpiq Holding Ltd. and will allow the company to trade more extensively in, for example, electricity, gas, coal, oil and certificates. Alpiq Trading AG is active in asset and proprietary trading, gas and multi-commodities, origination, MiFID services and environmental markets and is scheduled to become operational in the third quarter of 2011.
In the transitional phase now being embarked on, Alpiq Suisse SA and Alpiq AG will trade with its business partners in the usual manner. During this period, Alpiq Trading AG will gradually conclude new framework agreements with its business partners. Agreements signed by Alpiq Suisse SA and Alpiq AG will remain valid. Once Alpiq Trading AG has started up, Alpiq Suisse SA and Alpiq AG will cease concluding new agreements. Alpiq will be informing its trading partners in writing about further steps in the near future.
Alpiq is convinced that Alpiq Trading AG, with its trading floors in Olten, Lausanne and Oslo (via Alpiq Norway AS ), 250 business partners and a capitalisation of CHF 500 million, is set to become a leading production-supported energy trader within Europe.
